Road Trip USA: San Diego

The more I travel, the more i get confused about where I might want to live, each place has its own charm, character and feel – some places I like, some I don’t. San Diego is different, give me the chance and I would move there tomorrow (someone, please, just give me the chance!)

Destination 2 on our USA adventure was San Diego, with only 3 days there was a limit to how much exploring could be done, and sadly, the zoo and Sea World didn’t make the cut. The San Diego metro makes getting around nice and easy (just get a hotel near one of the stops) and make sure you head to Old Town. Before getting to California I had no idea about the history of the area, particularly that of the border with Mexico. I hadn’t expected the level of Spanish that seems to be spoken everywhere, often before English. Old Town is a collection of buildings, said to be the oldest permanent Spanish settlement in California. It is now a historical state park, with a museum, renovated buildings from the 1700’s onward, restaurants, Churches and even a theatre. I love wandering around, exploring, seeing a glimpse of a long-ago time and sampling the amazing food.

The other big draw of San Diego is the beach, miles and miles of golden sands, with the occasional seal playing in the water. As well a flashy harbour area where you can admire the luxury yachts. The town itself has different districts with their own quirky character, and the whole experience was made 100 times better by the amazing Mexican food! The proximity of the border seems to have had a positive impact on the quality of authentic Mexican cuisine, some of the best we had in California (country music and Mexican food pretty much summed up our trip!)

This write up makes me want to go to San Diego even more now to live😑 My dream is to move to San Diego & be a part of Open the Gates ministries (which is in San Diego). I got to “visit” San Diego while reading this write up. Now maybe if next step I could make it for a real visit 😅Thank you for sharing!
